Carroll E. Gooch, 74 yrs, formerly of Kennebunk, Maine died peacefully Tuesday Feb 5 at his residence in Fort Pierce, FL. with his family at his side. He was the husband of Johnnie Ann Gooch.

Mr. Gooch was born in Kennebunk June 14, 1933 a son of Byron O. and Bernice Shackford Gooch. He attended Kennebunk schools and graduated from Kennebunk High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. Following his military duties, he returned to Kennebunk and joined his father and grandfather in the family firm of Shackford and Gooch Seafood Wholesale & Retail in Kennebunk Lower Village. The Market delivered seafood products to several hotels in Maine and New Hampshire as well as to private homes. Carroll retired in the mid 90s and wintered in Florida prior to moving there permanently in 2003.

Carroll was an active member of the Washington Hose Company in Kennebunk Lower Village and now an honorary member, a member and Past Master of Arundel Lodge of Masons, all Scottish Rite Bodies including the Maine Consistory 32nd degree Valley of Portland, Kora Shrine, York County Shrine Club and Aurora Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Kennebunkport. He is also a member of the American Legion in Kennebunkport.

Mr. Gooch was predeceased by his first wife Ruth M. (Taylor) Gooch, and a son Byron Gooch.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Ann (Martel) Gooch of Fort Pierce; two daughters, Mrs. Laurie Hunter of Kennebunk, ME and Karen Gooch Williams of Palm Bay, FL; two sons, Timothy Martel of Topsham, ME and Johnnie Martel of Kennebunkport, ME; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk on Saturday evening from 6 - 8 PM. The Kennebunkport Legion Post services will be Saturday at 7:30 PM followed by the Arundel Lodge Masonic Service at 7:45 PM. A celebration of Carroll’s life will be at 1 PM on Sunday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel. Spring interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.
